Privacy Policy

How we manage your personal information

In order to provide the Service and comply with certain laws, we collect, use, disclose and store your personal information.  How we collect, use, disclose and store your personal information is described in this Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and other privacy laws apply when we collect, use and disclose information or an opinion about an individual whose identity is apparent or can reasonably be ascertained from the information or opinion (“Personal Information”).

How we collect personal information

The main way we collect personal information about you is when you give it to us, for example, we collect personal information such as contact details when you:

  1. register for the Services
  2. upload documents
  3. contact us through your client portal or over the phone
  4. when you pay for a Service.

We may also collect information from you when we are undertaking a review. If we open a file about your matter, it will often include our opinion on your matter.

We store personal information on servers located in Australia.

We gather website traffic information using tools provided by third parties (for example, Google, Bing and HostPapa). These parties have their own privacy policies. We also use cookies and session tools to improve your experience when accessing the Site.  The information collected might include your IP address and information about other sites you’ve accessed.  We use this information to improve your experience and our Site.

We use social networking to communicate with the public about our Services.  When you communicate with us though these services (for example, LinkdIn), we may collect your personal information to use it to help us better communicate with you and the public.  Social media parties have their own privacy policies.

When you complete the “Review my contract” section, the information you provide is sent to an Australian location, where it is encrypted and stored in a secure environment.  We will then store the information for 7 years, as required by law.

We disclose information when required by law and you authorise us to disclose such information where necessary to others in furtherance of your contract matter (for example, within the law practice).

We also disclose personal information to other service providers that host our website servers and manage our finances.

We only disclose your sensitive information for the reason you gave it to us or for directly related purposes, or if you agree.

Why we collect personal information

We will ask you to provide personal information when you request a contract review. We do this:

  1. so we can provide you the Service; and
  2. because we are required by law.

We take these steps to protect the security of the personal information against threats by:

  1. regularly assessing risks
  2. taking measures to address risks; and
  3. conducting audits.

Under the Privacy Act you can ask for the personal information that we hold about you, and ask that we correct any personal information.

If you wish to complain to us about how we have handled you personal information you can do so by emailing us at info@beallalegal.com.au.
